Is The Last Guardian Finally Coming?

So it has been a busy 24 hours (who said that pre E3 would be quiet) and there is no better place to start than with the latest The Last Guardian rumor.

Either this game’s release is turning into one of the biggest trolls of all time, or The Last Guardian will finally be revealed at E3 this year. According to a report from The Guardian (you really can’t make this up) they have it on “very good authority” that this will finally be the year that we see Team ICO‘s latest game. Whether or not this turns out to be true will remain to be seen, but if this is revealed it will be a major score for Sony at their press conference. Many people are beginning to question what all of Sony’s first party studios are up to, so something needs to be revealed at E3.

Talking of E3, one game that we will definitely be seeing is Mirror’s Edge: Catalyst. Following yesterday’s rumors that were circulating about the game’s title, DICE‘s senior producer — Sara Jansson — has now officially confirmed this, while also adding that Mirror’s Edge: Catalyst is not a sequel to the original. As mentioned yesterday, moving away from a numbered title makes sense, especially if the game isn’t a sequel. I look forward to seeing more of this game next week.

Another game we will also see at E3 is Halo 5: Guardians. However what we have found out today is that Master Chief will be reunited with his legendary blue team in both single-player and 4 player co-op. The news broke as part of a Game Informer exclusive, where we also see the blue team lined up alongside Master Chief on July’s cover.

It was also announced by 343 that Halo 5: Guardians will offer 15 DLC maps free of charge. This is in addition to the 20 maps that are expected to be available at launch. I am a big Halo fan so all of this is great news. It is a really nice gesture to give additional maps for free, maybe this is 343’s way of apologising for the problems that occurred with Halo: The Master Chief Collection.

Also expected to be shown at Microsoft‘s press conference will be Rise Of The Tomb Raider and Forza Motorsport 6. However thanks to Amazon France — the ever reliable source of leaks — we may have release dates for both of these Xbox One exclusives. According to the listing, we can expect to see Turn 10‘s next racer on 18th September, and Lara’s next adventure on 13th November. I think these dates are very plausible as Forza games often release in September and we already have Halo 5: Guardians in October.

Speaking of the Xbox One, Microsoft has revealed a new 1TB version of the console. The latest version will also come with a new matte finish and the recently announced redesigned controller. While North America and Australia will have to wait until June 16th and 24th respectively, the latest version is available now in Europe.

The price point will remain the same for the latest console, with the previous 500gb models reducing in price by £50/$50. Once again I nailed this prediction on last week’s Party Chat. Ok so I said it would be at E3, but this is close enough right? The additional storage space makes sense, I already had to upgrade my model.

While talking consoles, I must include that the limited edition Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain PS4 console is now making its way to Europe. The 500gb console, which was previously only available in Asia, will be available on 1st September. It is a beautiful looking console so, if you were thinking of purchasing a PS4, this may be the one to get.

Closing out our news for today and I want to give a special shout out to CD Projekt Red. The studio has announced that their latest release, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, has sold over 4 million copies in the 2 weeks since its release. This is a significant milestone for the studio, and no more than they deserve for making a truly special game. I’m only about 20 hours in so far but I can’t recommend this game enough.

That’s it for now, so I hope you all have a great day and I will be back again tomorrow.
