The Rapture Is Coming This August!

Happy Friday everyone! As the weekend is finally in sight I have some good news to report to you all to today. Let’s start with the release date for Everybody Has Gone To The Rapture, which has been confirmed as 11 August 2015.

The premise for Everybody’s Gone To The Rapture is that you are dropped into a world that ended 31 years ago. As you are left on your own in aBritish countryside village, you must piece together the events that led up to the rapture. To celebrate the release announcement, developers The Chinese Room has set up a dedicated website, which will feature exclusive content just for the site. Also released was a new trailer, which you can check out below:

I am so excited for this game! The mystery of the story sounds really intriguing and, from what I’ve seen so far, it looks beautiful. It’s nice to see an end of the world game not flooded with zombies for a change. Also I am a big fan of the setting, Britain is under utilised in the the video game industry. If you want to find out a bit more on this game, I’d recommend checking out the recent PlayStation underground video below:

Moving on, there were some pretty big developments coming out of Oculus‘ pre-E3 press conference. Firstly we got a glimpse of the final version of Rift — their virtual-reality headset. The image below doesn’t look too dissimilar to the previous prototypes we have seen, but it is great to know it will finally be releasing in Q1 2016.

The headset was not the only thing that Oculus had to announce, as they also revealed Oculus Touch — their brand new input device designed specifically for the headset. The Touch consists of two controllers — one for each hand — which allow players to manipulate objects within the virtual world. I’m not sure what I think about these controllers, I guess it is really something that you will have to experience for yourself to really give it a fair assessment. This is the biggest problem selling VR to the public, until you can experience it you first hand you can’t understand it.

If this controller isn’t for you there will be an alternative, as it was also announced that Oculus will be partnering with Microsoft. It was revealed that every Oculus Rift headset will come bundled with an Xbox One controller and adaptor. I think this is great news for gamers. We want a controller in our hands that feels familiar and the Xbox One controller is one of the best. Whether or not I actually pick up this headset will depend on the game library that is available, but we did find out that Oculus already has partnered with a number of studios including; Insomniac Games, Square Enix and Harmonix.

Right, that is enough hardware for now, lets talk games again. Remember that PlayStation Plus version of Driveclub that should have been a launch game? Well it appears that it is now in the “final stages of development.” At least this is what game director Paul Rustchynsky has revealed via his Twitter. Despite the bad press, Driveclub is a very good racing game. I have been playing racing games for 20 years and can safely say this is one of the better ones. When the PS Plus version does arrive, I really recommend you check it out. I would even go as far as to say buy it now, you can probably find it for a decent price.

I will leave you with one final piece of news for the weekend, and that is that is the Steam Summer Sale has begun! I’m not a PC gamer myself, but even I know the glory that is the Steam Summer Sale, with many people purchasing several games at highly discounted prices. Remember that the discounts change everyday so make sure you keep checking back. At the time of writing I can see such games as Grand Theft Auto V , Hotline Miami 2 and the Metro Redux bundle for 25%, 33% and 80% off respectively. You can also pick up Max Payne 3, Mirror’s Edge and Portal 2 all for under £5 each! So many great deals.

Have a great weekend and I will be back on Monday!
