The Last Of Us 2 Confirmed?
What’s up everybody! So the wonderful voice actor that is Nolan North was holding a Q&A at MetroCon earlier this month, and it appears that he may have let slip that The Last Of Us 2 is in the works!
“I know they’re doing a Last of Us 2 but my character in Last of Us kind of had an untimely demise.”
I guess it is possible that North is mistaken, especially as he is a former cast member, but I would imagine that Sony very much want to see Naughty Dog make a return to their post-apocalyptic world, especially given the success of the first game. The Last Of Us truly was the game of a generation, and I would only be happy to have another game!
Despite North’s comments, it would appear that the star of The Last Of Us — Troy Baker a.k.a Joel — had something very different to say. Speaking at Indy PopCon, Baker said:
“I know nothing. I don’t know if we’re gonna do another one or not. If we do, then I trust Neil and Bruce and everyone at Naughty Dog to tell a story that needs to be told.”
Neil Druckmann and Bruce Straley were the creative and game directors on the first game, so it would make sense that they would be involved in any sequel. Druckmann said a few months ago that he was balancing his life between Uncharted 4 and The Last Of Us movie, so I wouldn’t expect a sequel to be imminent. As a guess, I’ll go with summer 2018.
Let’s stay with Naughty Dog a little longer, and some details have surfaced about Amy Hennig’s Uncharted 4. Hennig, who wrote and directed the first three Uncharted games, left Naughty Dog in 2014 before eventually joining Visceral Games to work on a new Star Wars games. When asked about the alterations that had occurred for Uncharted 4, North said that they “had shot 8 months of her story”, and that “it was all thrown away”. With this revelation, it helps us understand why Uncharted was eventually delayed until 2016! Based on what we have seen, I’m sure Uncharted 4 will still be a great game, but it will be interesting to see how this latest, possibly final, entry compares.
Mafia is one of my favourite games of all time. I had great memories playing this game on the PC and really felt it took the sandbox game to a new level in 2002. It now appears that Mafia III could be on the horizon after Take-Two registered a number of domains related to it. It would not be unusual for a company to do this in order to help protect their brand but it has been 5 years since we saw Mafia II, so something on the horizon isn’t out of the realms of possibility. Fingers crossed!
We will close out today with some GTA news! The latest update to GTA Online is hitting stores next week on July 8th. Ill-Gotten Gains Part 2 will add new clothes, vehicles and more! Console players will also get the previously PC exclusive ‘The Lab’ radio station. With all the new games that come out now, I really don’t see me going back to GTA in the near future. I love what they are trying to build with these free updates to Online, but I’d personally rather have new experiences.
That’s it for today, I’ll be back tomorrow with all your mid-week news.
