More Collector’s Editions & Bundles

Happy Friday everyone! It appears that SDCC week is the perfect time for publishers try and take advantage of the collectors inside of us. After yesterday‘s Just Cause 3 Collector’s Edition reveal, Mirror’s Edge Catalyst and Call Of Duty: Black Ops III are getting the same treatment.

First up is the Mirror’s Edge Catalyst Collector’s Edition, which is currently only available in the US. For $200 we get a 14″ diorama featuring Faith — both as an adult and a child. For those people who like to display body ink, you will also get a couple of temporary tattoos before closing out the edition with a steelbook and the obligatory concept artwork. I really like the Faith statue that comes with this edition, but I feel that the price point is a bit steep — especially when they will screw us British on the fx rate. As such, I will probably end up passing on this one.

Next up is the Black Ops III special edition, and this time we get something a bit bigger than a diorama. Yes, we are getting a small refrigerator with our latest version of Call Of Duty! The mini fridge will hold up to a dozen 330ml cans and does look pretty cool! Apart from some additional coaster, the rest is the standard steelbook, art work, and additional DLC. The price is yet to be confirmed, but if you’re a fan of Call Of Duty and need a mini fridge, you may have just found your perfect match…

Not quite a collector’s edition, but some pretty big news for potential Xbox One adopters. The Coalition has revealed that Gears Of War: Ultimate Edition will be bundled with the console when it releases on August 25th. The price will be the same as the standalone console, meaning you effectively get the game for free. This is just another great deal that should tempt you to get an Xbox One. With a strong holiday lineup, there really hasn’t been a better time to buy an Xbox One. In addition to the announcement, The Coalition shared a behind the scenes look at the upcoming remastered game.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is truly a special game. I have spoken before about how the game probably has more to experience than anything I’ve ever seen in a video game, so much so that it actually feels a little intimidating at times. Well, get ready to be intimidated even further — the first and second expansion packs are going to be 10 & 20 hours respectively. When speaking to Gameradar, game director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz went on to say that when you add up the content within these expansion packs “it’s almost the size of The Witcher 2”. My god! Being able to fully explore The Witcher 3 is a full time job. I wish I could play more of the game, but I just don’t have the time anymore. For hardcore fans of the game, I’m happy that CD Projekt Red are continuing to support the game.

Closing out the news this week, fighting fans can rejoice at the news that Ken is making a triumphant return in Street Fighter V! Yes that’s right a reveal trailer at SDCC revealed that Ryu’s friend/rival is back. I will not pretend for a minute that I know anything about fighting games, but even I have heard of Ken so I’m going to assume this is a big deal for fans of the series. The trailer looked awesome, and you can check it out below:

As it’s Friday, I leave you with today’s releases:

Have a good weekend!
