PS Plus Games For August

Hey everyone! So hot on the heels of yesterday’s Games With Gold reveal, we now have the new line-up for PlayStation Plus’ Instant Game Collection.

The latest update, which launches on August 4th, will see another four games added to the PS4 library. First up is Lara Croft And The Temple Of Osiris — a top down co-op action-adventure game. Next up is the critically-acclaimed Limbo — if you have not yet experienced this 2D platform adventure then I suggest you do so ASAP, it really is a great game. Rounding out the PS4 options are Stealth Inc 2. and Sound Shapes, which are both cross-buy with PS3 and Vita. Closing up the collection is CastleStorm: Complete Edition — which is cross-buy for the PS3 and Vita — and God of War: Ascension for the PS3. A reasonable month for PS+ users, I am keen to give Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris a chance. I would also play God of War: Ascension if I hadn’t already moved on from the awful Dualshock 3 — I can never go back…..

Next up, and further to recent reports that the Xbox One may allow a keyboard and mouse interface, it appears that Microsoft is looking into streaming PC games on the Xbox One. I guess this puts the previous news into context, but Phil Spencer has said that it is a “little more challenging doing the encoding on the PC side to the Xbox”, but he does also believe that a “challenge is good”. Microsoft and Xbox seem to be making all the right moves for gamers at the moment. While the success of this concept will rely on the latency, it is definitely a step in the right direction to help gamers consider the Xbox One over the PS4.

Nintendo‘s Wii U is largely considered the third wheel in this latest generation, but it has been confirmed that the console has finally reached sales of 10 million units. When you put into perspective that the PS4 passed this milestone only 9 months after debut, and that the Wii sold 10 times this amount, it has to be considered a failure. That being said, Splatoon has had a successful release after racking up 1.6 million sales — an attach rate of 1 in 6 Wii U owners is pretty impressive after two months.

So I think it is fair to say that I’m pretty excited for Fallout 4 this November! Well, in a recent interview with Gamespot, marketing executive Pete Hines revealed that the game was “basically done” when they revealed it just before E3!

“The game is basically done. It was by and large done before we announced it, in terms of the features going in. You’re not adding new features in May, June, July in the year you’re releasing; you’re trying to get everything fixed.”

Ok so this might not be hugely surprising — I would exepct most studios are in final production in the 4-5 months lead up to release — but it does demonstrate again that Bethesda got this reveal spot on. Finish your games before you reveal them, that way we don’t have to then incur the disappointment of big delays.

It is time to have another weekly car update for Forza Motorsport 6 — can you tell I’m excited yet? This week Turn 10 has revealed 41 further cars, which include a couple of British Touring Car Championship racers: the 2014 Audi #67 Rotek Racing S3 Saloon, and the 2014 Toyota #80 Speedworks Motorsport Avensis. These cars continue to look incredible, and September 15th can’t come quick enough!

That’s your lot for today. Until tomorrow…..
