September’s Games With Gold & Win An Island!
Following on from yesterday’s PS Plus Instant Game Collection reveal, we now have the lineup for Xbox’s Games With Gold service.
Once again we continue to get two Xbox 360 games and two Xbox One games, but the absolute standout is Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition for the Xbox One. Lara’s latest adventure will be available from September 15th on the Xbox One, which gives everyone the perfect opportunity to be up to date in time for Rise Of The Tomb Raider on November 13th. At least now people can stop moaning about the “lack of AAA titles.” Joining Tomb Raider on Xbox One is The Deer God — a 3D pixel art platform game where a hunter is reincarnated as a deer. The Xbox 360 will be getting Battlestations: Pacific up until 15th September, and then Crysis 3 from 16th September. Remember, all Xbox 360 titles will now be supported on the backwards compatibility program that launches on Xbox One later this year, so make sure you add them all to your list.
Talking of Tomb Raider, Square Enix has today revealed the Collector’s Edition for Rise Of The Tomb Raider. The main attraction to the bundle is a 12″ statue of Lara, which I have to admit does look very cool. In addition to the statue, there is a steel case, a replica of Lara’s leather journal, and a model of the Jade necklace. The price of Xbox One bundle is $149 so we can probably expect around £120. I like the statue, but I don’t know if I will be purchasing this edition. There are all ready so many games coming out and my budget can only stretch so far.
So we know that Gears Of War: Ultimate Edition is finally launching this week, but one of the game’s original creators, Cliff Bleszinksi, is busy announcing his new game: Lawbreakers. This free-to-play arena shooter will be coming in 2016 and will be centred around guns, gangs and gravity. The game will take place after an event that changed the world we live in, namely the effects of gravity going haywire. Based on Bleszinksi’s prior credentials, this is definitely a shooter to keep an eye on next year.
Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is so close I can almost taste it — I’m in full Metal Gear Solid mode playing through the previous games. Anyway, The Phantom Pain will launch next week with a companion app for PS4, PS3 and Xbox One. Konami has confirmed that the app will allow you to access Snake’s iDroid and display the in-game map. I always like the idea of having companion apps to display a larger in-game map, but realistically I never really use them. I might actually try again this time though.
Closing out the news, and how would you like to own your own island? You read that right, Square Enix are giving you a chance to win an island simply by playing Just Cause 3! The winner will be the individual that is top of the Chaos Point leaderboard 90 days after release. There is a couple of catches though: firstly it might not necessarily be habitable, or accessible by air, and you will be responsible for all taxes associated with the purchase of such an island. If this all sounds like too much work, you will be entitled to take a cash equivalent prize of USD 50,000. If money was less of an object, I would definitely take the island just for the sake of saying I owned one. Realistically, I’d take the money!
