October’s Games With Gold Confirmed

The weekend is here! And what better way to kick it off than the news of some incoming free games for Xbox One and Xbox 360 gamers.

Yes October’s Games With Gold have been announced and good news for those out there that have always wanted to play The Walking Dead. Series 1 of Telltale‘s 2012 game of the year winner is coming to both Xbox consoles on the 16th October. I strongly recommend that you check this game out when you get the chance, it was one of the few games that gives you real emotional moments throughout. Also on the Xbox One is Valiant Hearts: The Great WarUbisoft‘s highly-regarded World War I puzzle-adventure. Over on Xbox 360, from October 1st to October 15th you will be able to grab Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes. Personally I think they are a couple of months late on this one but, if a new gen console and The Phantom Pain are on your Christmas list, this is a good way to prepare yourself.

Talking of lists, I’m sure Star Wars: Battlefront is right at the top of a lot of peoples list for this winter. Continuing the good news trend, EA has announced details of the upcoming beta for the game. The beta will be playable in just a couple weeks time, running from October 8th to October 12th. Players will be able to take part in a range of game modes on different locations, including: Walker Assault on Hoth, Drop Zone on Sullust, and Survival  Mission on Tatooine. I will most definitely be signing up for this to see how the game is shaping up.

Staying with the beta chat, and if two weeks is too long to wait then you’re in luck, the Rainbow Six: Siege beta is live! If you are busy on the weekend fear not, as the beta will run until October 1st. The beta features three of the eleven launch maps, two mulitplayer modes (TDM – Secure Area & TDM – Bomb) and the co-op game mode terrorist hunt. While these betas are run to ensure that everything is in place for a smooth launch, it does provide us gamers an opportunity to try the games out. If you are on the fence about this game, definitely make sure you give it a go!

It seems that the interest in VR might pick up even more next year as Oculus has announced that Minecraft will be getting VR support in 2016. It will be interesting to see which version of Minecraft prevails in terms of success as we have already seen Microsoft show of an augmented reality version of the game using HoloLens. Personally, I think VR experiences should be reserved for those games that have been specifically designed for that experience, but hey I don’t even get the appeal of Minecraft anyway!

Finally, here are this week’s latest game releases:

Enjoy your weekend!
