Has Kojima Left Or Is He On Holiday?!

It seems that this Kojima / Konami drama is never-ending. Has Kojima finally left the company?

In what is potentially the final chapter of the Hideo Kojima vs Konami fiasco, The New Yorker is reporting that Kojima left Konami on October 9th. The report cites one individual who said that the leaving ceremony was “a rather cheerful but also emotional goodbye.” The report goes on to state that neither Hideki Hayakawa or Sadaaki Kaneyoshi — Konami’s President & CEO respectively — were at the ceremony. At first I would have thought this was a fairly credible report, given what we have heard previously, but Konami has since move to deny the report, stating that “currently, Kojima is listed as a company employee” and he is simply “taking a long time off from work” following the completed development of Metal Gear Solid 5. It is not unusual for employees to be given a period of leave after finishing a game, but I think that the carefully worded statement to deny his departure means it isn’t black and white. Kojima’s non-compete runs out in December, so I guess only time will tell…

In just a few short days, Assassin’s Creed Syndicate will be available for everyone to (hopefully) enjoy. In anticiaption of its release, I can now share with you some images (courtesy of GameSpot) of the map within the game. As you can see from the images, London is split into six main boroughs: Whitechapel, City Of London, Southwark, Lambeth, Westminster, and The Strand. The River Thames also features in the game. It is understood that the map in Syndicate is about 30% larger than last year’s Assassin’s Creed Unity, which itself was pretty large! What I have seen from Syndicate so far has impressed me, and we will be sure to bring you a Let’s Play next week.

One game we have to wait slightly longer for is EA‘s Need For Speed, which is arriving on November 6th. However, in anticipation of its upcoming release, Ghost Games has shared with us the full car list for the upcoming “reboot”. There are 51 cars in total, including such models as the Ferrari 458 Italia, McLaren 570S, Lamborghini Aventador, and Ford Mustang. All 51 cars, which can be seen here, will be fully customisable…both performance and visuals. I was lucky enough to get some time with the closed beta earlier this month, and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised with how much I enjoyed this game. If you’re a fan of racing games this may be one to consider for the holiday.

Closing out the news, and it is time to offer some praise and recognition. A speedrunner who goes by the name Darbian has set the new world record for Super Mario Bros.. According to speedrun.com, the latest time of 4m 57s 627ms beat the previous record by a mere 66 milliseconds! The record can be watched in full below, and it is definitely worth 5minutes of your time. I have massive respect for people who complete these speed runs, I can’t imagine the amount of dedication required to be the best in the world. Well done Darbian!

That’s your lot for today.
