The Year Of Uncharted 4 Is Finally Here!

Happy new year everyone! I am back from a well earned two week holiday so today is all about catching up on the biggest stories that have broke over the holiday period…

Yes, 2016 is indeed the year of Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End but unfortunately the release is now coming a little later than we would have liked! In an announcement on the PlayStation Blog, Neil Druckmann and Bruce Straley — Creative Director and Game Director respectively for Naughty Dog — confirmed that the final entry in Nathan Drake’s story will now release on April 29th, a five week delay. The delay will allow Naughty Dog to make sure the game gets the extra polished needed to reach their standards and vision. The delay doesn’t bother me too much, the game will be better for it, but I don’t like that it is no longer a worldwide release. An advanced warning to all UK gamers, stay away from the internet that week!

Not the happiest note to start the year on so let’s now look at some “free” games for PlayStation fans. On the PS4 this month PS Plus subscribers will get Grim Fandango Remastered and Hardware: Rivals (I called it). Personally, I think this is a big improvement on last month’s offerings, Grim Fandango is a critically acclaimed adventure title from Tim Schafer, and Hardware: Rivals looks like it could be a lot of fun! PS3 owners will get Dragon Age: Origins and Medal Of Honor Warfighter, while Vita owner can enjoy Nihilumbra and Legends of War Patton. I can’t remember the last Medal Of Honor title I played, but once upon a time that franchise was the king on console shooters! All these titles go live tomorrow, so make sure you have added December’s games to your library before it’s too late.

It is already too late for Xbox fans, January’s Games With Gold offerings have already gone live. First up, Xbox One owners can get their hands on Killer Instinct: Season One Ultra Edition, which is available for the entire month of January. I’m not a big fighting fan, but I have heard a lot of positive things about this particular title. The second game, available from January 16th, is Zheros, a 3D action brawler set in distant and unknown galaxies. Over on the Xbox 360, although also available on Xbox One via the backwards compatibility program, is Dirt Showdown (1st-15th January) and Deus Ex: Human Revolution (16th-31st January). This is the second Dirt racing game on Games With Gold in quick succession, but as a racing fan that is ok by me! Human Revolution is a very good game and arrives in the lead up to Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, which releases in August this year.

It must have been a pretty happy Christmas over at EA and DICE after it was claimed that Star Wars Battlefront has already sold 12-13 million units! Michael Pachter — analyst for Wedbush Securities — believes that the title sold 6 million units in November, before repeating that number again for December. Another analyst, Evan Wilson of Pacific Crest Securities, has gone as far as to say that he believed 13 million units of Battlefront have been sold. We should note that these numbers are by no means official, but are probably a good indication of where the current sales are. Either way, I’m sure EA are pretty happy with their initial success!

Talking of successful numbers, Valve has revealed that a new Steam record was set over the weekend! Yesterday, January 3rd, a new record of 12.3 million concurrent users was set. With it being a holiday weekend it may not be surprising to hear it was a busy period, but the record numbers suggest that PC gaming is continuing to increase in popularity. Sony and Microsoft have never released similar statistics for PSN and Xbox Live, but I’d be really interested to know how they compare!

That’s all for today. Our videos will commence again next week but I’ll be back tomorrow with another news update.
