Will Uncharted 4 Be The Death Of Drake?
We have known for a while that Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End will mark the end of Nathan Drake’s journey, but how exactly will it end?
In a recent interview with The Sun, game director Neil Druckmann may have given some insight into the destiny of Nathan Drake. Druckmann indicates that Naughty Dog realise it may not be a good business decision to walk away from the franchise — at the height of its popularity — but feel that Drake deserves to have his story finished and “to go out on top.” Druckmann emphasises that the future of the franchise is in Sony‘s hands, but then proceeds to say the following:
“with the end of [A Thief’s End’s] story, it will be really hard to do a sequel with Nathan Drake… Maybe there’ll be a prequel, maybe it will be a different character, I don’t know. But this is the end for Nathan Drake.”
Is it true, could they really kill off Nathan Drake?! To put it bluntly…no. I just can’t see Naughty Dog deciding this is the way to end Drake’s story, it just doesn’t fit in with the story so far. It is possible I could be wrong (it doesn’t happen often) but the only way we will truly find out is in a few months time when the game launches on April 29th.
Let us do some more speculating, and Marc Laidlaw — the sole writer for both Half-Life and Half-Life 2 — has announced his retirement from Valve. While it is not clear if Laidlaw had finished his work on Half-Life 3 (if it still exists) he did give the following statement:
“I am no longer a full or part time Valve employee, no longer involved in day-to-day decisions or operations, no longer a spokesperson for the company, no longer privy to most types of confidential information, no longer working on Valve games in any capacity.”
Now there are two ways to look at this: firstly is the simple option that Laidlaw has simply decided that he has done this job for too long — he does reference being “too old” in his statement — and just wants to call it a day. Or, the more exciting theory is that they have wrapped on the story to Half-Life 3 and Laidlaw has departed following the completion. Seeing as the latter is far more exciting I’m going to go with that. Who knows when we will see Half-Life 3, if ever. I really hope they just phantom release it on Steam one day!
Just last week we learned that Sony had sold almost 36 million PS4 consoles, and it now appears we may have an Xbox One figure for comparison. In a recent report Microsoft confirmed that they currently have about 200 million active Windows 10 users, and it is understood that the breakdown is as follows: 180 million from PC, 1 million plus from Windows phone and the remaining 18 million from Xbox One. While Microsoft wouldn’t confirm numbers they did confirm that “active” mean the device has been used within the past 28 days. It is conceivable that some people who own an Xbox One haven’t turned it on in the past month, and therefore wouldn’t count towards this figure. As such, I would say there are probably about 20 million Xbox One consoles in the wild. As expected this is significantly behind the PS4 numbers, but still represents good overall sales for the console’s first two years.
While we are talking stats and figures let’s end today’s news on the lighter side. Pornhub has revealed its yearly site figures and we can learn which console gamers to prefer watching their porn on. Leading the way was the PS4, counting for 47% of traffic coming from a video game console. Xbox One is not too far behind, with 38% of the total traffic. If we are to consider the console figures above as accurate, this would mean that per person Xbox gamers watch the most porn. Rounding out the figures is the Wii U with 9%, PlayStation Vita with 5%, and the Nintendo 3DS with 1%. I personally can’t understand why anyone would watch porn on their console but there you go, to each their own!
