See The Power Of Media Molecule’s Dreams

Media Molecule has released a series of videos showcasing the power of the creation tool in their upcoming title, Dreams.

Every time I watch a video of Dreams, I struggle to understand exactly what the game is. I’m not sure if I’m in the minority with this, but if not that is a huge problem. One thing that I don’t doubt is that the creation tool within the game is pretty powerful. In the latest videos, one of which you can see below, we see developers from Naughty Dog recreating the terrifying Clickers from The Last Of Us. Somehow they don’t look quite as scary in the colourful setting of Dreams. Due to launch later this year, Dreams will arrive in the same year as Media Molecule’s 10th anniversary. I hope it is a successful one for them, but I am just not onboard with their latest title, yet.

The majority of the news today is expansion pack related, and we kick off with details regarding Baba Yaga: The Temple Of The Witch, the upcoming expansion for Rise Of The Tomb Raider. Due to launch on January 26th, the first expansion promises to deliver “hours” of new content as Lara discovers a new tomb. Here is the official description:

“This adventure expands the story of the main campaign with Lara facing deadly new adversaries, exploring a new puzzle-filled tomb, and solving a decades old mystery, all culminating in a showdown with an ancient and mythic evil. Includes a new outfit, and a new bow.”

To be honest, I would take any excuse to return to this title. I have a couple of clean up items still to finish in the main game, but Rise Of The Tomb Raider delivers that perfect gaming loop that just keeps you wanting to go back for more.

Next up, and Dying Light Enhanced Edition has officially gone gold. The latest version of the zombie-parkour game includes the upcoming expansion, The Following. In addition to the DLC you can expect to see better graphics and AI, along with other additions like Bounties, a new challenge coming to Dying Light. These upgrades will also be available to existing owners of the game, but the expansion will cost you £16. Dying Light definitely had good potential, but I just couldn’t get invested into it. The buggy racing looks cool though! The Enhanced Edition will be available from February 7th.

Cities: Skylines is not the first name that comes to mind when someone says city-building simulator, but it is was a big success in 2015. Publisher Paradox Interactive has now announced that the game will be getting a new expansion pack, titled Snowfall. Due to release later this year, the expansion’s tagline states: “The difficulty heats up when the city cools down.” As you can probably guess, the theme of Snowfall is wintery and will include managing your city through the tough times by ensuring it can handle the increased heating demands and have enough snow plows to keep the roads clear. I do love myself a good city-sim, I will have to check this out when I upgrade my PC in a couple of months.

Until tomorrow,

Matt
