Insomniac Announces New Metroidvania
The 2D side-scrolling metroidvania game will launch this Spring and will feature Merryn, a 12 year old girl on a journey to find her lost father. As you may expect from the title, the game takes place in a world of underwater cities. Ted Price, who is the chief executive, has described the game as a passion project for the studio. Comments like this make me really excited for Song Of The Deep, a game will always be better when it is something the creators are truly passionate about! The reveal trailer, which you can see below, shows the vivid art style that we are familiar with in an Insomniac game. Could this be 2016’s Ori?!
Moving on and EA has provided us with plenty of new information following yesterday’s investor call. First up let’s look at the potential release dates for three of EA’s biggest titles: Titanfall 2, Mass Effect Andromeda, and the new Battlefield. It was confirmed that all titles would release in the fiscal year 2017 (1 April 2016 – 31 March 2017). With regards to finer details, CFO Blake Jorgensen said the following:
“You should assume that a Battlefield will come typically in the third quarter, when we normally have it.We’re not yet announcing when Titanfall or Mass Effect Andromeda will come, but you should assume that’s in the back half of the year as well because the second quarter [July-September] is so dominated by our sports titles.”
This basically means that only one of Titanfall 2 and Mass Effect Andromeda is coming this year. October (I think) will be Battlefield, leaving only November — December is not a feasible release. If I was a betting man I’d say Mass Effect Androma comes in November with Titanfall 2 being an early 2017 release.
Some more information from EA, and this time it relates to its EA Access program. The next title that will be added to the vault is…Madden 16. This will be the third Madden title of the fifteen total games in the program. The official date that the football game will be added is February 2nd, which is just days away from Super Bowl 50. I don’t want to sound like a broken record but I really like EA Access, I easily get my annual subscription’s worth by playing games such as Madden and Battlefield — games I enjoy playing but wouldn’t normally buy.
The Division is a game I feel I keep talking about now, but there is plenty going on as we build up to its March 11th release. The latest news discusses the post-launch content, which will include three expansions and free upgrades. The three expansions are all premium content and are titled: Underground, Survival, and Last Stand. Details include:
- Underground – Opens up a new area to players as they explore the uncharted underworld of New York City with up to four friends for intense co-op action.
- Survival – Challenge players to survive as long as possible in a very hostile environment that will challenge even the most talented agents
- Last Stand – No details are available yet.
The free content will include new game modes, but details on these are not yet available. It will be interesting to see how much the expansions cost and just how much content is there. I personally don’t normally go for DLC, unless it is truly exceptional. As an extra side point do remember that the beta is live this weekend, if you have a code!
I will leave you this week with the latest game release. They are:
- LEGO Marvel Avengers (PS4, Xbox One, Wii U, Vita, 3DS, PC)
- The Witness (PS4, PC)
- Sebastien Loeb Rally EVO (PS4, Xbox One, PC)

- Doodle God (PS4)
- Mega Coin Squad (PS4)
- Amazing Princess Sarah (Xbox One)
