Is EA About To Revive Skate Franchise?

Ever since the nightmare that was Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5, fans of the extreme sport have been crying out for Skate 4 and now their pleas may have been answered.

According to leak from Australian retailer JB Hi-Fi, Skate 4 could be set for a release this summer. The image, which you can see below, shows a listing for the rumoured title including some box art and a release date of August 23rd. The image is of an Xbox One version of the game and also appears to indicate that Skate 3 may also be including, presumably as part of backwards compatibility. I know fans would love to see Black Box‘s series return, and this EuroGamer story shows how fans constantly bombard EA‘s Instagram account with requests of Skate 4. Unfortunately I think we have to take this with a pinch of salt, firstly because that release date would coincide with another EA release, Madden. If Skate 4 is a real thing expect to hear about it at EA’s new event taking place in lieu of an E3 appearance, EA Play.

It is not uncommon to hear about individuals moving from one developer to another, but the most recent revelation is a big one! Chris Schlerf, who was the lead writer on Mass Effect: Andromeda, has announced on Twitter that he has left Bioware in order to go work for a “scrappy little company” that goes by the name of Bungie. Previous to his role at Bioware, Schlerf worked at 343 Industries on Halo 4. While this is no doubt a big loss to Bioware, I think the bigger story here is how it will benefit Bungie. We all know that Destiny‘s story was lacking and, with the recent announcement that a sequel is coming next year, hopefully Schlerf can help address those previous shortcomings.

The first episode of Hitman is only a few weeks away but if can’t wait any longer for some Agent 47 action you maybe in luck. Square Enix has announced today that Hitman GO: Definitive Edition is coming to PS4, Vita and PC next Tuesday, February 23rd. Hitman GO was originally a turn-based mobile game, and the Definitive Edition will feature improved visuals as well as containing all post-launch content from the mobile game. These include missions recreated from classic Hitman games such as the Paris Opera from Hitman: Blood Money, and the St. Petersburg Stakeout mission from Hitman 2: Silent Assassin. If you haven’t yet played this game I think it would feel right at home on the Vita. Don’t be put off by its mobile history, it’s one of the few good ones!

It is crazy to think but the PS4 has now been out for almost two and a half years. For those who remember, Knack was a launch game that ended up receiving the mixed reviews that optimise a launch title. Now, according to the CV of a 3D animator (via NeoGAF), a sequel is currently in the works. The CV revealed that the individual is working on “animated 3D character motions and cutscenes” for Knack 2 on PS4. While a CV doesn’t necessarily guarantee a game’s development, I think it can be considered a reasonable assumption that such a game exists. If we are to get a sequel for Knack, it has several issues that it needs to address in order to be a success today: gamers will not give the same “free pass” that launch titles get.

Until tomorrow,
