March’s Games With Gold Announced
It is that time of the month where Xbox gamers have been told which games they will be able to download for free during the month of March.
For the entire month of March Xbox One owners will be able to get the detective adventure game, Sherlock Holmes: Crimes & Punishments. If crime-solving isn’t your thing, then action-RPG Lords of the Fallen will be available from March 16th until April 15th. Already a solid offering for Xbox One owners but they will also be able to enjoy the Xbox 360 titles thanks to the backwards compatibility program. For the first half of March (1st – 15th) Supreme Commander 2 will be the free game, and then from the 16th will be Borderlands. If anyone has yet to experience Gerbox‘s role-playing FPS, this is definitely a title you don’t want to miss! A really solid month for Microsoft, it will be interesting to see how Sony match up.
While I am giving Microsoft their praise for a decent Games With Gold offering it is only fair that I comment on their shortfalls. The past couple of days have seen numerous interruptions to the Xbox Live service. Fortunately the service seems to have been restored now, but it was still an unpleasant experience for gamers the last two days. Xbox gamers have predominantly enjoyed a trouble free service but Microsoft, and Sony, need to improve their security systems to help prevent these DDoS attacks. That being said, I will never understand what possesses people to try and ruin fun for others!
Talking of Sony, it appears we may shortly be finding out the exact release date and cost of PlayStation VR. Just last week we spoke about how the VR headset may be getting a later release than originally expected, but now Sony has send out invites for an event next month. On March 15th, an invite-only “exclusive press event” event will be held in San Francisco where Sony will give a presentation on PlayStation VR before another hands-on experience. I think it is a pretty safe bet that this event is to give us a price and release date, following both the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive announcements. Seeing as these two headsets are going to cost £500 and £600+ respectively, will Sony be the one who offers us a more affordable VR experience?
Konami has made an announcement today that actually puts them in a good light for once! The Japanese publisher has revealed that an expansion will be coming to PES 2016 in order to celebrate this year’s upcoming Euro 2016 tournament. The new content, which launches on March 24th, will include officially licensed kits (from 15 of the 24 qualified teams), the Stade de France stadium, and more. What makes this announcement even better is that the additional content will be free and launches across all consoles. This makes a nice change to previous years, where EA has normally launched a standalone game or a premium expansion.
That final announcement today comes from Focus Home Interactive who has announced that their successful Farming Simulator series is making a return later this year. Farming Simulator 2017 will come to PS4, Xbox One and PC. No other details have ben revealed about the game so far, but we were provided with a still image, which can be seen below. I personally don’t understand the appeal to these games but I know that they are well received critically and do have a hardcore community. We will be sure to bring you more on the game as I know that Ash can’t wait to talk about it!
